Chicken Cordon Bleu

I made a recipe last week, unfortunately I made it at my boyfriend's house so I didn't have a chance to take a picture of it. For now I'll just explain it and I'll post the full recipe later. For the main course I made chicken cordon bleu, for a side dish I made lemon vermicelli and for dessert I made cremets. Chicken cordon bleu is chicken breast wrapped around swiss cheese and ham and then breaded and baked. This part of the meal turned out well, everyone really enjoyed it, but next time I'll remember to add a bit more cheese as I found it kind of dry. The lemon vermicelli was personally my favourite part, it's vermicelli tossed with lemon juice, olive oil, black pepper and basil. Very easy to make, not exceptionally flavourful, but it really cleanses your palette with a light fresh taste. Unfortunately, most of the people that ate it decided to add tons of butter and salt to their own, adding a lot more flavour but I thought it took away from what it was supposed to really be. Anyways, the cremets were somewhat of a disaster. It's cream cheese, cream, icing sugar and coffee. Then after chilling them you melt dark chocolate and drizzle it on the top  It's very wet when you add all the ingredients together, so you put it in ramekins lined with cheesecloth. You're supposed to let them chill for at least an hour and a half, but personally I recommend much longer. When you take them out of the fridge they're supposed to be these nice little coffee and chocolate tasting circles with a gel consistency. The taste was fine, but they were just a pool. It was kind of the consistency of melted ice cream. I think there were 2 problems. One, that I mentioned before, is that it should have chilled longer. The second it to make sure that you layer the cheesecloth thickly inside the ramekins, because it's the cheesecloth that absorbed the moisture and allows it to take it's shape. One thing no one really liked was that the cheesecloth imprinted little lines all over the dessert, it's not a big deal but it would be nicer if it were smooth. Anyways, all in all the meal was pretty good, I'd like to try making it again because I want a nice picture of it, and I also would like to try the cremets the way they're supposed to be.

First Post

So I decided to make this blog because I'm kind of bored, and I wanted to track my cookbook. I decided to make one myself because I'm moving out next year and I want to learn how to actually cook, and not just warm things up in the microwave. So far I've just been collecting recipes, and I got this app on my ipod that lets you check out all these recipes for free. I don't just want interesting recipes though, I also want to learn how to make things from scratch, like bread and stuff.

The first recipe I'm planning on making is romano risotto with radishes. I'll probably make it on Saturday, so we'll see how it works out.
